Step behind the Scenes with the Florida Repertory Theatre Education Department in an exciting, hands-on Technical Theatre Workshop! Inspired by Sweeney Todd, School Edition, our upcoming conservatory production, students will get an inside look at the world behind the curtain!

Session 1 Description:
Lighting Design: In this hands-on lighting masterclass, students will learn the fundamentals of theatrical lighting. We’ll explore the essential components of stage lighting instruments and teach students how to safely set up, focus, and operate them. We’ll introduce the basics of lighting control and cueing—how lighting is programmed and run during a performance—so students can understand all the lighting jobs that go into making a live production. This session gives students a practical introduction to the tools, techniques, and collaborative skills used by professional theatrical lighting technicians, including roles such as lighting board operators and follow-spot operators.

Audio Sound Engineer: In this hands-on sound masterclass, students will learn the fundamentals of audio engineering. Students will explore the different parts of a body microphone and learn how to properly prepare, handle, and apply one. Students will see how to break down the basics of signal flow—so students can understand how to set up, troubleshoot, and test their own audio equipment. This session gives students a practical introduction to the tools, techniques, and problem-solving skills used by real sound engineers.

Session 2 Description:
Make Up/Hair/Wigs: Students will get to experience the workings of a professional backstage costume shop. They will learn the basics of stage make-up, wig styling, wig upkeep, how to design, and how to collaborate with other artists.
Instructor: Skylee Vaughn
Costumes: Students will get to experience the inner workings of a professional costume shop. They will have the opportunity to learn basic sewing techniques, standard care/maintenance of costume pieces, and how to design and collaborate with fellow artists.
