Florida Rep’s Summer Camp Shows Deliver Big Talent and Even Bigger Heart

Created with Sketch.

This summer, the young performers at Florida Repertory Theatre have taken audiences on some incredible journeys. From the snowy mountains of Arendelle to Depression-era New York and all the way over the rainbow to the Land of Oz, each show has been full of impressive performances, thoughtful direction, and heartfelt storytelling. These productions weren’t just “good for a kids show” — they were genuinely delightful pieces of theatre, crafted with care by a passionate team of educators and artists.

Frozen Jr. (June 19–20)

Directed by Education Director Monique Caldwell, Frozen Jr. opened the summer season with magic, music, and heart. The cast brought Anna and Elsa’s story to life with charm and confidence. Amelie Andrade Torres and Siena Diblasio led the show as the famous sisters, showing strong vocals and emotional depth beyond their years.

Savannah Roberts brought big laughs and bigger smiles as Olaf, and Ethan Butler was a standout as Kristoff. With detailed costumes by Skylee Vaughn, striking lighting design, and smooth transitions, the production had a professional feel from start to finish. It was the perfect show to kick things off.

Annie Jr. (June 23–July 3)

Directed by Megan Jimenez Leonard, Annie Jr. was a joyful, high-energy production that warmed hearts. Shannon Simone was a perfect Annie, full of grit, charm, and optimism. Her rendition of “Tomorrow” was met with cheers and some happy tears.

Giovanna Muro stole scenes as the hilariously over-the-top Miss Hannigan, and Gustavo Mendez gave a kind, commanding performance as Warbucks. The orphan ensemble nailed every number thanks to fun, clean choreography by Katelynn Handa. Music Director Jessica Mongerio kept the show in sync and full of life. It was a true feel-good performance from top to bottom.

The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition (July 18–19)

Under the direction of Janelle Laux, The Wizard of Oz brought the magic of the classic story to life in just over an hour. Georgina Pipitone led the cast as a grounded and heartfelt Dorothy, with a moving version of “Over the Rainbow” that set the tone for the show.

The trio of Carter Montalvo as Scarecrow, Lillith Dubé as Tin Man, and Christine Wise as the Cowardly Lion had wonderful chemistry and delivered both laughs and heart. With beautiful design elements, creative staging, and a cast of enthusiastic young performers, this production reminded everyone of the power of friendship, imagination, and home.

The Team Behind It All

These summer productions were made possible by an extraordinary team of artists and educators. Directors Monique Caldwell, Megan Jimenez Leonard, and Janelle Laux brought their years of experience and dedication to each process. Music Direction by Jessica Mongerio, choreography by Katelynn Handa, and costumes by Skylee Vaughn helped each show sparkle. Summer Program Manager DJ Kelly ensured the programs ran smoothly and supported each camper and creative with heart and humor. Together, this team created a space where young artists could take risks, grow, and truly shine.

Up Next: Peter Pan Jr. (July 31–August 1)

The summer isn’t quite over yet. Peter Pan Jr. is flying in to close out the season with swashbuckling adventure and songs you’ll be humming all the way home. Directed by Megan Jimenez Leonard, this final camp show invites you to join Peter, Tinker Bell, Wendy, and the Lost Boys as they take on pirates, explore Neverland, and celebrate the power of imagination.

Catch it before it soars away. You won’t want to miss this final flight of the summer.
