Watch the Sizzle Reel:
Florida Rep Education proudly brings Refugee to students across Southwest Florida as part of our Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) series. Adapted by Eric Coble from Alan Gratz’s bestselling novel, this play follows three young people—Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud—as they embark on life-changing journeys in search of safety, family, and a brighter future.
Though their stories take place in different decades and different parts of the world, each character shows remarkable strength, resilience, and hope. Together, their journeys remind us how powerful young people can be when faced with challenges—and how important it is to support, understand, and care for one another.
A Story That Inspires Conversation
At its core, Refugee is about courage, family, and the universal desire to belong.
This production encourages students to think about what makes a place feel like home, how communities support each other, and how young people can create positive change.
The sizzle reel gives a glimpse of the storytelling, teamwork, and imagination that bring this world to life onstage.
